New Fire Research Centre

July 9, 2007

The University of Central Lancashire, in Preston, UK, have enlarged their Fire and Explosions Research Centre by the incorporation of the Fire Chemistry Group from the University of Bolton.

This group have specialised in studies of fire retardant behaviour, bench-scale physical fire models and fire smoke toxicity. The new laboratory will feature pyrolysis-GC-MS, Thermal Analysis coupled with FTIR analysis, and have a dedicated high sensitivity FTIR gas analysis facility interfaced to various bench-scale fire models. Professor Richard Hull commented that this is the first time expertise in fire chemistry and fire science has been combined into a single laboratory.
